Thanks for taking the time to visit my site. I’m Cary, aka the Redfish Whisperer. My goal is to lure fat bull reds into my kayak for exciting photo opportunities and the occasional meal. 😉

I’m primarily a freshwater fisherman. That’s where I got my start. I’m not making the change to saltwater and despite my moniker I have three targeted species: redfish, spotted sea trout, and flounder. However, I don’t discriminate. Should a blue, sheepshead, black drum, etc decide to attach itself to the end of my line I’ll be happy.

All of my experience is with spinning rods but in moving to saltwater I’m also moving (slowly but surely) to fly fishing. I’ve got traditional rods from Scott and Redington as well as a wonderful Tenkara rod for small fish (locally that means bluegill).

Hopefully you’ll find some useful info here and you can take this journey with me.

What do you think of your TFO Mangrove rod. I also fish out of a Native Slayer, primarily for wild browns chucking large, articulated streamers. I’m considering picking up a 6 weight Mangrove to hopefully make pitching big streamers from my kayak a bit easier. Anyway, just wanted your take. Nice blog. Thanks

I think the Mangrove is a great little rod. Seems to load quickly which comes in handy when sitting. Not that I sit much, but if you’re paddling and see something you want to take a shot at you can get the fly in front of the fish quickly. Thanks for the compliment.
